Who Would Buy This: Those shopping for a basic, slimline, 18 inch built-in dishwasher that’s ideal for apartment living.

Features

  • Holds 8 standard place settings
  • Stainless steel interior
  • Three stage filtering system
  • Two nylon coated wash racks
  • Silverware basket
  • Design

Being a budget dishwasher, the DWE1801B has a somewhat indistinctive plain appearance as expected, but is still sleek enough to not look out of place in a modern or even older style kitchen. The front exterior is built with thin metal and is all black with a white Avanti logo near the top alongside the controls, and a small recessed handle underneath it.

    Interior

On to the inside, right away you can tell you’re getting your money’s worth. This model features a stainless steel interior, which is corrosion resistant and helps aid in sound reduction. The tall tub design provides better than average space efficiency, so you can fit in taller dishes. There’s two spray arms, so both the upper and lower rack get adequate water coverage.

For loading dishes, there are two nylon coated racks which can fit eight standard place settings. The upper rack is height adjustable to allow you to fit larger items on the lower rack, such as large dishes, pots or pans. In addition, there is a cup shelf and removable one piece silverware basket for cutlery.

    Controls

The front sided electronic control panel is as basic as you’ll find on a dishwasher, which is pleasing from a simplicity standpoint. There are three push buttons to control the various settings, along with six indicator lights.

On/Off – Powers the unit on or off. As this dishwasher has no auto shut-off, you need to remember to turn it off manually after each use.

Start/Reset – This button starts or resets the wash cycle.

Prog – Selects the wash program cycle. Each cycle has a dedicated indicator light to show which cycle is selected.

There are four automatic wash cycles to choose from for handling different types of loads.

  • Heavy – 125 Minutes
  • Normal – 95 Minutes
  • Light – 85 Minutes
  • Speed – 65 Minutes
  • 3-stage Filter System

A 3-stage filter is fitted to handle the capture of food particles to prevent drain blockages. The filtration system comprises of a Main filter, Coarse filter and a Fine filter.

    Summary

The Avanti DWE1801B is a solid entry into the market for an 18 inch built-in dishwasher.

It’s cut-backs are noticeable, such as it’s plain design, fragile front and lack of features. However, it has many strong points like it’s sizeable stainless interior, acceptable wash performance, quiet operation and Energy Star rating, to make it well worth recommending to those in need of a budget-priced slimline dishwasher.
