Design
The HY-280 comes in an attractively designed slim black tower constructed primarily with plastic aside from a splash of metal around the top. Its plastic construction gives it a lightweight of just 10.4 lbs. With the base attached, the tower stands 39.5 inches tall. The base itself has a small footprint so it only occupies little floor space, much to our delight.
It includes a top-side carry handle to make carrying it to another location a cinch. There is also a handy cord management feature which allows you to tie the power cord at the back of the fan to keep things tidily and avoid excess wire getting in the way.
QuietSet Control
Honeywell have incorporated a plethora of fan speed settings – 8 in total, which is a departure from the standardised number of just 3 speeds that most fans feature. This enables you to get the most suitable sound and cooling level for your preference. Each speed setting has been distinctly labelled to match different modes.

Controls
The topside push button electronic controls, featuring five buttons and a digital display, allows for easy operation of the fan settings.
Key features include an auto shut-off Timer. You can select from either one, two, four or eight hour settings. By simply pressing the Timer button repeatedly, you can cycle to a higher setting or turn off the timer.
An oscillation function is available if you want the fan to switch from breeze to oscillation mode to produce a breeze in a wider area.
A really cool feature is the temperature control mode. This uses a built-in thermostat to allow you to specify a precise temperature you want the room to be at, so the fan will automatically adjust its speed to reach the temperature then turn off to conserve energy.
Remote Control
A mini 6 button remote control is included for convenient operation of the fan whether your seated or standing. The remote is almost full-featured. You can operate all the fans functions using the remote control, apart from the Timer feature. The rear of the fan tower has a recessed storage area for the remote control so you keep it safely stored for easy retrieval.

Summary
As far as tower fans go, the Honeywell HY-280 is stylish, feature-rich and is capable of producing a comfortable light breeze very quietly. However, the build quality of the unit isn’t great and its base lacks sturdiness, so you need to be careful when handling it. Additionally, some consumers have experienced their unit failing after just a few weeks, so it’s reliability rate is questionable.
Quality issues aside, if you desire quietness along with the flexibility of many speeds and convenient features it could be worth taking a punt for.
