Who Would Buy This: Those shopping for a low to mid-range, standard sized portable full console dishwasher that’s suitable for situations requiring temporary usage.

Features

  • Woodgrain laminate top
  • Holds up to 12 place settings
  • 5 wash cycles
  • 2-stage self-cleaning filtration
  • Piranha™ hard food disposer

Stylish and Portable

In typical GE fashion, the GE GSC3500DWW looks real stylish and makes a statement. The study steel case is white at the front and sides, and has a decorative black base at the front to give some pizazz to it’s appearance. The highlight of the design is the attractive woodgrain laminate top, which gives it the look closer to that of a built-in dishwasher without using your counter-top space.

Flexible Installation

By purchasing an optional GE conversion kit, you can use this dishwasher as a built-in unit by installing it under the counter.

Interior

Unlike the outside, the inside isn’t so impressive. The tub is polymer plastic, so things like drying performance and noise reduction are compromised. We wouldn’t be too concerned about long term durability as plastic tubs are proven to hold up well over time.

Like most portable dishwashers, there are just two wash racks plus one silverware basket on the lower rack, which has enough space for 4 places. Unfortunately, the racks can’t be adjusted in height nor do they have adjustable tines, which limits the loading flexibility for fitting in larger dishware or glasses. The racks can hold up to 12 place settings, which provides ample room for lots of dishware.

The 5-level wash system uses three dedicated wash arms in the lower, middle and upper areas to ensure excellent wash performance.

Controls

For the front controls, the GE GSC3500DWW features a TouchTap™ with dial. This is a hybrid style of controls that uses both mechanical and push button control types, which is pretty neat and straightforward.

The mechanical dial has settings for Off, Hot Start, Heavy, Start, Plate Warmer and Rinse Only. The four touch-pads have buttons for convenient control over the main wash cycles and the Heated Dry option.

GE didn’t include many cycles. There are just five basic wash cycles to select from.

  • Normal Wash
  • Heavy Wash
  • Pots & Pans
  • Plate Warmer
  • Rinse Only

Noise Level

This GE dishwasher uses a QuietPower™ Motor. Despite this, it isn’t as quiet as the name would suggest. It’s noise level of 64 dBA, makes it louder than most modern dishwashers. So this isn’t a dishwasher we’d recommend for use in an open plan kitchen or any area where quietness is a must.

Summary

The GE GSC3500DWW comes with an affordable price tag, which glaringly shows with it’s high noise level and lack of versatility. The lack of flexible racks is a real drawback to those who’s lifestyle requires the flexibility for loading pots, pans, oversized dishes and glasses of a wide diameter.

Despite it’s drawbacks and lack of frills, it is satisfactory when it comes to wash performance and energy efficiency, so if those are your main priorities in a portable dishwasher, this could be a good buy.
