Product Review: LG Electronics LP0814WNR Portable Air Conditioner
Price Range: $250 – $300
Who Would Buy This: Those shopping for a sleek looking, compact portable air conditioner to effectively cool down a small or medium sized room up to 200 square feet.
Sleek, Modern Design
The LG LP0814WNR is a free-standing unit with a front venting design. The built-in swivelling caster wheels are designed for easy rolling across a variety of floor surfaces. Its white casing features sleek curves which gives this unit an elegant modern look that really looks the part in any modern living space.
It comes with a 6 ft length power cord which plugs into a regular 115-volt outlet. The manual states not to use an extension cord due to the heat it generates, so the lengthy power cord is welcome.
This LG unit features an 8,000 BTU cooling capacity which gives it the capability to cool rooms as large as 200 square feet at a reasonably quiet noise level of 55 dB on its highest fan speed.
Although this model doesn’t feature automatic louvers, it has 4-way air direction so you can manually adjust the direction of the air both vertically and horizontally by simply adjusting the louvers at the front of the unit.
It’s dehumidification capabilities allow it dehumidify a room at a rate of 2 pints per hour, which is a very good rate for a portable air conditioner.
LG have designed the controls on this model to be simple to operate, so user-friendliness is given high priority here. The topside control panel features six large buttons and an LED display which produces a bright, clear readout of the temperature and other settings.
The included infra-red remote control gives you convenient control so you can operate any of the settings from the comfort of your armchair. The only drawback is the remote control doesn’t have backlit buttons so using it in darker areas isn’t so easy.
Modes and Functions
The modes available include two fan speeds, two cooling speeds and a Dry mode to lessen room humidity when no cool-down is needed.
Additionally, there is also a sleep mode which increases the temperature by 1 degrees Fahrenheit every 2 hours to help lower energy usage during night hours.
There is also an Auto Cool setting that lets you pre-set the unit to your desired temperature so the thermostat will monitor the room temperature and adjust the fan speed accordingly. This in turn helps conserve energy because it ensures that the fan speed always runs at its optimal setting.
The 24 hour On/Off timer is another convenience feature present in this AC. This allows you to pre-set the unit to turn on or off when you want it to. The delay timer can be set in 1 hour increments from 1-24 hours.
This is a convenient feature. If you encounter a temporary power failure, the unit will automatically restart itself once power has been restored, so the current settings are kept without you needing to reconfigure them.
This LG Air Conditioner comes equipped with an air filter for basic filtration to provide cleaner air. The filter is washable for long lasting use. As per the manufactures guideline, the air filter should be vacuum cleaned once every fortnight to ensure optimal performance.
